Getting to Viking's House
We are located about 60 miles from the Montego Bay Airport. You may rent a car, hire a taxi or utilize public transportation to reach Viking's House.
Hiring Your Own Taxi You may "charter" a taxi from the airport for about $100-$150 US. As you step out of the airport you will get many offers from drivers wanting you to charter with them. Agree on the price ahead of time!
************************************************************************************ Special Offer We offer discounted airport transport for 1-4 guests $120 one way or $240 for both rides, coming from the airport to Viking's House, and your trip back to the airport at the end of your trip. (This offer requires a 50% transport deposit along with your room reservation deposit.) Our driver will be waiting outside the airport for you, with a sign with your name on it. *************************************************************************************
RENTING A CAR You may rent a car at the airport or in Montego Bay. You should feel confident in your ability to drive on the left, on narrow, pot hole-filled, bumpy, crowded roads. Jamaicans drive notoriously fast and one should really use caution. The drive should take about 2 hours. Car rental is a lot more costly in Jamaica compared to other areas of the world, expect to pay at least $50 US per day, in addition to a minimum of $2,000-$3,000 damage deposit hold on your credit card. Most auto insurance (including what your credit card may offer ) for rentals is NOT valid in Jamaica.
TAKING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION If you want to save money and are traveling light, this is the way to go. Expect the journey to take up to four hours. From the airport, find out where to get a taxi to the "bus park". From the Montego Bay bus park, find a bus to "Sav" (Savannah-La-Mar), in Sav, find a taxi or bus to Black River, in Black River, find a Treasure Beach taxi driver, and let them know you need to go to Great Bay. The total cost per person will be less than $20 US. Remember, what is considered a 5 passenger car in most places, is used to hold 4-5 in the back seat alone in Jamaica! A mini van in Jamaica often carries over 20 people in it. Prepare to feel like a sardine on a roller coaster, but it is an adventure and it's the way the majority of Jamaicans travel from place to place.
IN GREAT BAY, WE ARE LOCATED ON "TIDES REACH LANE". THIS IS A RIGHT TURN OFF THE MAIN ROAD. FOLLOW THE ROAD (MAKING NO TURNS) UNTIL IT ENDS AT TWO HOUSES. WE ARE THE TWO-STORY HOUSE CLOSEST OF THE TWO TO THE SEA (TWO HOUSES PAST DRIFTWOOD).
